1997

24/07/97 Moles Club, Bath

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown, Gregory Jones, Clem Courtney, Julien Clapperton

I think this was specifically to impress somebody who was considering managing us, she didn't turn up. We supported a thankfully long gone group called Speedy who had had a hit, so it was packed.

09/08/97 Hallenstock '97, Bristol

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown, Gregory Jones, Clem Courtney, Julien Clapperton

A private festival (true) for employees of some large companies in Bristol. In a big tent at a rugby club. We thought it would be dreadful but we really enjoyed it. Most of the film used in the "Blue & Beautiful" video is from this show. Panic generated by Hancock (esteemed friend and future tour manager) disappearing. It transpired that he had decided to walk to his mum's house, got lost and spent the night in a ditch.

15/10/97 The Fleece & Firkin, Bristol

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown, Gregory Jones, Clem Courtney, Julien Clapperton

This may be one we played with members of The Moonflowers, possibly. Can't recall what the occasion was.

26/10/97 The Bull & Gate, Kentish Town, London

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown, Gregory Jones, Clem Courtney, Julien Clapperton

Small venue in North London which has a high reputation that I thought was undeserved, but having been there recently I quite like it now. Harry The Horsethief (future Melancholia contributor and dedicatee) attended this show, probably the only time he ever saw us play.

11/11/97 The Orange, Kensington, Bristol

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown, Gregory Jones, Clem Courtney, Julien Clapperton

It looks like by now we had decided that playing in London was a good idea. Hancock was now a fixture in our live set-up, he drove and helped with equipment. We went to a late-night newsstand and got a copy of the new Melody Maker when it arrived with a review of our album in it, just like being in a Broadway show.

16/12/97 The Rummer, Bristol

Jonny Collins, Gregory Jones, Clem Courtney, Julien Clapperton

Why did we do this? No Dave, so we played an acoustic Xmas show. I seem to remember that the plan was that just I was going to play and it then snowballed.
