09/02/95 The Louisiana, Bristol

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown,Mark Langley, Phil Johnstone-Smith, Steve Miles

Return to The Louisiana. We think this was the show at which future 'Blaise member Gregory Jones first saw the band, and also Mark Langley's final show.Steve had his lovely shiny drumkit stolen from his car in Bridgwater a fortnight earlier. Actually, I think they took the whole car.

13/04/95 The Brewhouse, Bristol

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown, Phil Johnstone-Smith, Gregory Jones, John Shewan

A warm-up show for the forthcoming Bristol Sound week. Gregory's first live show, he was asked to join on 19/02/95 and the next day we did a live session for BBC Radio Wales in Swansea. There was a big argument in a curry house after the radio session and Mark quit the next day, partially because he didn't know who Gregory was.

18/04/95 Castle Park, Bristol

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown, Phil Johnstone-Smith, Gregory Jones, John Shewan

Played in a big Radio 1 marquee, but their generators were incompatible with our ancient amplifiers and they went down in the middle. Gregory proved that he was definitely a MB type person by tap-dancing the rest of the set. Sterling work.

Played with 3 other bands and stole the show simply by smashing up guitars much to their annoyance. The picture on the front of Modern Guitars..... of Gregory, is from this show.

21/05/95 The Riverside, Chippenham

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown, Phil Johnstone-Smith, Gregory Jones, John Shewan

A nice venue unsurprisingly next to the river in Chippenham, I don't think it's there anymore. Don't remember the show though.

Another weird one. After being unable to contact him for ages, we eventually managed to speak to John Shewan and he said that he had quit but hadn't told us yet. Faced with what was billed as a mod night (much to our chagrin) we dressed stupidly and played as the Modesty Blaise Tribute Band - Modesty Blouse - without any drums. Actually, it was quite good but the promoter hated it and so did the scooter boys.

Warning, these photos are not for those of a delicate disposition!

05/08/95 RAF Brize-Norton, Oxfordshire

Jonny Collins, David W.Brown, Phil Johnstone-Smith, Gregory Jones, Nick Scooper(guest)

About as stupid as it gets. We played a wedding reception in The Officers Mess at an RAF base with an old showband. We alternated sets with them and, thanks to the ridiculously subsidised bar, both bands got progressively more drunken until the other band's sax player fell forward off the stage trashing his equipment. Eventually both bands became one and we murdered all sorts of previously good songs. Then it was off to our sleeping quarters and Dave was awoken in the morning by a tank outside his window. Top fun and the first time I ever used my Fender Coronado. Very Modesty Blaise.
